Hundreds of dedicated Elvis watched as 13-year-old Isabella Scott cut the birthday cake on the lawn at Graceland, the singer longtime Memphis home. Scott Bonifay, Florida, an Internet-based Elvis fan club of more than 2000 members.
The mayor of Memphis and Shelby County also read the proclamation of Elvis Presley Day Ceremony, which was attended by fans from Brazil, England, France, Japan, Spain and the U.S.
Presley was in Tupelo, Mississippi, born January 8, 1935 and moved to Memphis with his parents at the age of 13 years. He was 42 when, on his 16th died August 1977.
Presley's first song, "Never mind," the Sun Studio in Memphis in 1954 and made his first West Tennessee town home until his death.
"Like coffee and cream, jelly and sauce, peanut butter and banana ... Memphis and Elvis, a combination that was very thoughtful," Memphis Mayor AC Wharton Jr. told the crowd.
Fans celebrate because on Saturday when Memphis Symphony Orchestra presents a concert to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Elvis' landmark "Aloha from Hawaii" show.
