Rick Majerus'achievements as a coach

Rick Majerus, the colorful college basketball coach considered one of the most brilliant minds in the history of the sport, died Saturday at 64. I spoke with Majerus for the first time and only on March 27. Louisville Kentucky and were about to meet in the Final Four, John Caliph pitting against Rick Pitino in what seemed to be a showcase of the great American sports rivalry last workout. I called Majerus, who coached what would be his last season with St. Louis in 2011-12, to find out what happened to the coaching rivalry that once overshadowed the games themselves. Majerus court instead held, to give me a recent history of college basketball and what was his opinion on the sport he loved. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

Reducing personality training: Now, with tweeting and Facebook and all the things that were not available then, it has more players. The coach is a bit "the face of the program, but I guarantee you guys tune in any medium shall cause to dunk or see the shot on the second game last or see or hear anyone what to tweeting.'s why it's different from the day before. It all turned on bigger stage.

Social media: If you're 19 - or 20-year-old guy, you do not want to get in tune to what the coach says. It is the real fashion. You tune into someone Facebook page and Twitter account or YouTube posting.

Recruiting: Recruiting used to be more localized. Recruitment is now international. If Louisville Kentucky or losing a child, there is another guy from Siberia road.

Coaching: It 'more transient. Nowadays, every coach is fairly well compensated. I think there's more live and let live attitude.

In support, I always have fun at those press conferences. Believe me, they are a serious contender. I think I'm the [19]-winningest coach in the game right now, and I have not been to UCLA the world. But I also realize it's a game.

Of younger coaches: I feel bad for some of these guys. They get a call from AAU team for 10 am saying someone is going to take an unofficial visit. I put the phone down. I do not go to sleep waiting for the guy to call me AAU.

Privacy in the Internet era: I'm going to Hawaii this summer, and if someone shoots me with a camera, and I'm having Pina Colada in the pool, I do not care. A lot of guys will be upset with this. But I'm in Hawaii!

Abama'working

The Alabama Crimson tide Battle of Atlanta is one thing. SEC title is the goal. This is the sole purpose of

Yes, it would be a great opportunity to play in the BCS national title is a gift, but it will not be focusing on this channel.

Alabama wins Championships. Wave captured 14 national titles and 26 conference addresses on top of the old South in 1920. Alabama did not go for more than 10 years, without getting rid of the National Conference or the crown.

Resulted in five different coaches Alabama's national championship (Wallace Wade, Thomas Frank "Bear" Bryant, Gene Stallings and Nick Saban).

The goal when Nick Saban took the field for their first practice and tides, and this spring, winning a title. Poured blood, sweat and tears, began in August when two A-Day, Alabama's players and is expected to lead to the title.

Fielded 120 Alabama 23 first-team all Americans to put a player and coach in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Played at Alabama, and won more bowl games than any other college football program of all time, winning seven of the flux ratio and sixth victory at the national level.

All this is good, but it does not mean that much, if it is not accompanied by the title.

State OF ALABAMA football, in many ways, and the life: No professional sports franchises to convert a percent of the population that comes out of the South is very low.

When asked their former players with the tides, and the first question is almost always, «Are you a championship team," If the answer is yes, and in awe of this player to grow immediately.

We are born to love Alabama football. And we have grown to expect that everything our football program and live vicariously through time to learn to speak.

Coach Bryant returned to Alabama to become a coach, because, as he says, "Mama called." He knew the importance of having a quality football program in the state and the people who live in it. Coach Stallings is one of the students knew BRYANT Texas A & M, as well.

And had just arrived when Saban Alabama TUSCALOOSA previous experience almost seven years ago, when he entered the event as the head coach at LSU.

But he knew.

As Saban has won the most important thing is family and Alabama, and it will be successful, he had the same regard for excellence Waltvani.

Since he was the Capstone and Saban called his best players. He preached and excellent effort, dedication and determination in every waking moment. He is walking and talking, and he expects his team to do the same thing like a winner.

Alabama may or may not win today, but that, of course, the day when he was working, because the next day to win the title in January at LS BXS  You see, that won the state title OF ALABAMA, and then one focus our sights set on the next one.

If you come away with a victory in Georgia, Alabama will have 24 hours to celebrate and draw attention to the SOUTH BEND, Indiana, where the struggle of the Irish and Notre Dame will be waiting for the CS national title at stake.

If not, then focus on the application of the University of Virginia, which opens the season against the 2013 Alabama, and the "process" of a new well.

We're Alabama. This is what we do.

what happens if Ronda Rusey loses her U F C debut

There is not a MAM fan knows Bleacher Report attending Ronda Rousey became the first female mixed martial artist to sign with the UFC. If I just broke the news to you, then you should also know Brock Lesnar is back in the EWE  Anderson Silva is a bit 'winning streak and Chanel Sonnet will soon be fighting Jon Jones.

Female MAM rose in 2012 with the help of Rousey, but also because of the success of the first three events FC Inviting  and any other promotions struggles EMMA good as Bella tor  Unfortunately, for EMMA, most fans only know Rousey.

Think about it, there was great debate this year in regard to the sustainability of the UFC flyweight division. Some fans believe that the talent pool is not deep enough to have 125 pounds division will fight in quality on a consistent basis.

At present there are about 15 flyweights of the UFC roster and most fans recognize the names of Johnson Demetriou (title holder), Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson and Ian McCall. It is no coincidence that the fan will be able to recite statistics of these warriors, but rather the fans who are constantly reading this sport.

What about the women's bantamweight division? The only two fighters in this division are signed Rousey and Miesha Tate. Of course, this is only in the early stages with more combatants should be released soon, but how much of the success of the division rests on the shoulders of Rousey?

A year ago, nobody knew today was Ronda Rousey, and if you did, there was no way that he knew would be the biggest story of the 2012 MMA. No matter where you fall with the support of WMMA, shall be construed to Rousey was the most consistently talked about figure in MMA since March for the rest of the year.

So what if he loses in his UFC debut? Will he lose the momentum it has gained for himself? We see this happening all the time. Someone riding a wave of success and finally reaches the big time only to fail and get back into oblivion.

Sure, Rousey should lose his debut (opponent to be determined), the MMA community will not forget, but most of its tradition certainly vanish.

It seems to be a "plan B" division for women in Rousey UFC failing. Dana White and many in the media have talked about how dominant she was nasty to the point where some people. What happens when fans get sick fighter? They want to see him / her lose.

So where are the fans of it? They want to see Rousey lose control and watch the behavior of the last UFC pay their money grab? There is a possibility that a person beats Rousey can become so popular and marketable as Ronda? And both of you WMMA step back if the "Experiment Rousey" fails?

I want to see success WMMA, and I find it much more interesting and useful for sport to see Rousey be eliminated or made his UFC fight first. The spotlight will be paid on both fighters section newly formed women's bantamweight possible. Otherwise, you will only be Ronda Rousey and "all others".

Women need more than one face to bring their division mainstream

Why not? He's getting everything. 26-year rap sheet is longer than many rappers athletes, but rarely do you see him behind bars. Logan is slugged by people and dogs as they chased his car, he's busted for cocaine and almost got away with.

In February 2011, police said Logan stealing a $ 2,500 necklace jewelry store in California. He was sentenced to 120 days in prison, but will get community service instead. He was not performed, so after 7 November, a judge sent him to jail for 30 days. Logan was out in a few hours.

In June, he crashed his Porsche into 18-wheeler and authorities say lied to police, saying her assistant was driving. He was charged with a California on Thursday - the same day he was arrested for assault in New York.

Here is my question: What if a black or Hispanic man commits the same crime, and Lindsay Logan is accused of?

"If (one of my clients) stolen necklace is worth more than $ 1000, a judge may reduce the felony petite larceny, a misdemeanor, if he had no previous record," said the defender William top lawyer Rita. "In the best case, they have three years of probation. However, if the test violated, they would be imprisoned."

It remains to be seen whether a judge on both coasts Lindsay Logan treated like anyone else who breaks the law.
